Matthew is Of Counsel in Lagerlof, LLP’s litigation department.
He specializes in business and real estate litigation in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. His practice has concentrated on creditor rights in bankruptcy, real estate title disputes, and business litigation matters.
Matt has successfully prosecuted numerous quiet title actions from case inception through judgment in California state court proceedings. He has also successfully prosecuted numerous cases seeking to void fraudulent instruments including forged deeds, fraudulent reconveyances, false U.C.C. filings, and cases involving notary liabilities. Matt has filed and defended actions for declaratory and injunctive relief regarding lien priorities.
In debtor-creditor relationships, in California state court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court proceedings, Matt has successfully prosecuted claims involving the fraudulent transfer of assets including real properties relying on California’s Uniform Voidable Transactions Act (formerly the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act) and related prejudgment proceedings including California’s lis pendens laws. Matt has successfully prosecuted and defended motions to expunge lis pendens.
Matt received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University, where he graduated with honors. He graduated from Loyola Law School, where he was a member of the International and Comparative Law Journal and represented the law school in regional competitions of the Jessup International Honors Moot Court Program.
Before being admitted to the California Bar, Matt was licensed as a California real estate agent. He is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of California, all Districts of the United States District Court in California, and the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.
Matt is rated “AV”, the highest rating, by Martindale-Hubbell, the national directory of attorneys. He has also been recognized as a “Southern California’s Top Rated Lawyer” by the Los Angeles Times in 2013. He has also served on the Editorial Board of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Litigation Section Newsletter and was a volunteer mediator and arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys piano, golf, and spending time with family and friends.
