Summer Associate Program
An eight-week experience designed for second-year law students who want meaningful exposure to the practice of law, hands-on work, and mentorhsip that helps launch a successful legal career.
substantive experience
Conduct legal research and analysis. Draft substantive written work product. Work on matters across multiple practice areas. Observe hearings, mediations, depositions, and client meetings, as available. Gain insight into client services, law firm operations, and the business of practicing law. Complete a final presentation reflecting your summer experience.
Mentorship & Feedback
Each summer associate is paired with an experienced attorney mentor who provides guidance and perspective throughout the program. You'll receive feedback from the attorneys you work with and have the support you need to ask questions, build skills, and grow professionally.

Who We Are Looking For
We consider second-year law students (2Ls) with strong academic performance preferred. Class standing will be evaluated based on the applicant’s 2L law school transcript when available.

Our Summer Associate Program is more than just a summer experience—it’s the beginning of a lasting career. Many of our summer associates return to Lagerlof, LLP after graduation as full-time attorneys, building on the relationships, mentorship, and hands-on learning they gained during the program. We’re proud that our program serves as a foundation for long-term professional growth and success within the firm.
A Rotational Experience
Summer associates rotate through multiple practice areas. Some of the practice areas may include:
- Estate Planning
- Corporate
- Real Estate
- Litigation
The rotational structure provides exposure to different types of matters, attorneys, clients, and approaches to legal practice while allowing participants to explore areas of interest and gain a broader understanding of how the firm’s practices work together to serve clients.

Applications for the summer internship are generally accepted from September through October for the following summer.
Program Dates
The eight-week Summer Associate Program typically runs from late May through July.
